Essential Tips
Look for this page to constantly grow as we ferret out the tips that help both good and evil players. If you have a tip you wish to share, you are welcome to send it to us. Most of these tips come from playing experience and are not presented as being the only ways to do something.
- Never dally around StarDock! Get in, get out.
- Reds are NEVER safe in FedSpace. Blues are only safe if below 1000 Experience.
- Get into a warpable ship as soon as you can. Even better if you can get your commission.
- Always carry a cloak and at least 1 limpet.
- Never ever go back to your own home base without stopping by a Class 0 port to check for limpets.
- On limpets... if you have a limpet on your ship and enter another sector with limpets, yours will fall off, and another one attach. Remember this trick... limpets can also cause atomic fusion.
- Never ever move without scanning unless you are 1000% positive on what is in each sector.
- Never park on your planets until they are shielded.
- Never park with all of your corpies on one planet. Sleep alone!
- Always have at least 201 Planetary shields on your shielded planets. Less than this, and you are subject to photons.
- Cloaked corpies can be towed if you have locked onto them before they exited the game.
- If you are in the same sector as a cloaked corpie, you can still exchange fighters, shields, and cash with them.
- Cloaks Fail!!!
- Check out the extended game settings from the entry menu... just hit a "*" and you can see all the cool settings before you get into the game.
- Corbomite can be your best friend.. load up on it... load it onto ships and plant them where your enemies will find them. Get a reputation for using it!!
- Nav Hazard is another great defense. Learn to use it!
- To find back doors... Let's look at Terra... place the known warps from Terra on the avoid list, and then plot a course from any sector to Terra. This should reveal the back door. Do it with StarDock as well as the other two Class 0 ports. Also, do this on the door to your bubble, but try to plot a course from outside the bubble inside. This can save your life!
- Kill toll fighters or not... whatever you do, don't linger in the sector. Use a macro to get in and out of there as fast as you can. Also, use at least 5 fighters when destroying your enemy's single toll fighter.
- Try to play your turns every day - this game can be unforgiving if you don't. If you are on a corp, remember it is a team and your teammates are counting on you.
- It is a game... and supposed to be fun.
- When in doubt, ask.. ask your corpies, ask in the forums. While there are a sick few that will tell you to press C-B-Y for anything you ask about, there are far more who will answer your questions honestly and completely.
